A parallel world (true story)
Once upon a time, in August 2020, I went to Brazil as a volunteer by a Catholic NGO named 'Enllaç'. We went to a small village in the middle of nowhere named São Miguel do Guaporé. Mainly, we were in the village around the church helping with whatever; I remember to be painting walls and doing events with the youth of the village. However, for one week, each volunteer of us went to live with different families from the 'Lines'.
The lines are big lands the government gave to families in exchange for the families must take care of them. I don't know further about the details of this deal, but it sounded a good one. I went to live with a beautiful family, they were a marriage with a young son and daughter. During the week, I mainly spent time with the son; he showed me his horse, we went fishing in a small brook too. But the most I remember was when in the afternoons we usually gathered in a yard with people from other lines. Although we speak different languages, we had understood each other, our will to understand each other was above our language. They explained to me how it was their life there and I how was mine in my country, we learned a lot from each other.On my last day, there was an event that gathered all the families around. While we were walking to the event, different families that I already knew from the days before were joining with us in the way to go to the event. It was then when a thing stuck in my brain, it was a feeling indeed, I felt deeply as if I was in a dream, or more likely in a parallel world, it was absolutely different from my world and there was no one to remind me where I came from, I was alone with these new friends. Nowadays, a piece of my heart is still there.
During a period, I was having a correspondence with my friend from the line. Each time that I got a letter from them I had the same feeling, the feeling that I was having contacts with a parallel world. I love them.
